Tech will be bigger than ever at midem !

06 Jan 2012

Technology is the driving force that pushes music into the future. midem 2012 is packed with the tech industry’s leaders, teachers, and rising stars. See demos, hear pitches, and network with VCs and global brands to grow your business. The midem programme includes several events that are highly relevant to anyone interested in the technology sector.

At the core of midem’s technology experience, the Innovation Factory, sponsored by Vivendi and Jamendo, features training sessions, tech demos, and networking opportunities with experts and innovators. Participants are also invited to join in midem hack day or enter their start-up in the midemlab pitch competition. Training sessions will offer instruction on Basic Startup Operations, Fundraising, and Pitching Media. Mentoring sessions with founders of ReverbNation, MOG, Gracenote and Sonicbids will also be available. BarCamp sessions will offer a chance to engage in conversation on the tech industry’s hot topics. The overall programme fosters a spirit of collaboration, curiosity, and innovation.

midem’s Visionary Monday conference will explore and offer deep insight on how to engage with audiences in a world connected by music. Speakers will include thought leaders such as Om Malik from GigaOm, Mikael Hed CEO of Rovio and creator of Angry Birds and Dan Rose from Facebook. Amazon and Google will join an exclusive midem debate entitled, “How to Work with the Fab Four: Lessons for Success.”

At the annual midemlab pitch competition, sponsored by Vivendi the best & brightest start-ups from across the globe compete for the top spot. This year’s finalists were selected by midem partners Music Ally & bluenove. They receive personalized coaching from Microsoft BizSpark, as well as global acclaim, international media exposure and access to investors & business partners. The winners are announced during the Visionary Monday, and they receive additional exposure, free legal advice provided by Jeff Liebenson, Principal at Liebenson Law (USA) and free access to all Reed midem events for one year. Previous finalists have launched successful companies that are influencing the music industry today, such as SoundCloud, the Echo Nest, Next Big Sound, Root Music, Songkick, Kickstarter, to name a few. Come meet the finalists, hear their pitches, and discover the innovations & business models that will shape music’s future.

At midem hack day, sponsored by Bluevia, a brave group of developers, designers and hackers will conceptualise and build a brand-new software application in 48 hours. Selected artists, music professionals, and agencies will be on-hand to contribute feedback. At midem hack day 2011, ultra-connected artist Imogen Heap provided the hackers with inspiration. She asked the team of developers to build an app to help her engage with fans through audio. The resulting application, “Takes Questions”, successfully launched shortly after midem. This year, we will solicit ideas from a wide range of people in the music world. The results will be demoed to the whole midem audience. Join midem hack day, and watch new ideas come to life!

The hub is a brand-new midem event where innovators and influencers from the worlds of music, tech, and advertising will gather to engage and connect with one another. Meet with midemlab finalists, developers from midem hack day, global brands, artists, and business leaders in music & technology to forge new partnerships.

Also new to midem 2012 are the How To Sessions, where you can pitch your product to artists and music professionals at the D2F Camp, or in the Innovation Factory. Sessions are all-inclusive and include pitch stage, screen, and sound system.
